Meet Tigger Old Park Woods Latest Guide Dog Puppy

Heather and David Lowe bought their holiday home at Old Park Wood in 2014. They have been providing services including puppy walking and basic training for guide dogs since 2010.

Each year they bring a new puppy to Old Park Wood and to date the staff team have taken great delight in watching the progress and growth of first Lyric, then Phoenix, followed by DJ and now Tigger!

Tigger is a yellow Labrador and at only 12 weeks can sit and lie down on command. He is like his name suggests a real bouncer.

Tigger will leave Heather and David at between 12 and 18 months of age when he will head off to training school where he will eventually be matched with a blind or partially sighted person.

Heather and David love their work “It is a very worthwhile cause, everyone one asks how can you give them up but when you see the dog you have trained, from a puppy working, with a blind person, it is very rewarding”

It currently costs £44,600 to train a guide dog partnership. This covers the first two years – from birth to graduation. After then it costs £12,200 to support the working partnership.

We have a guide dog collection box located in the shop please give generously to this very worthwhile cause. Without donations the society’s would not be possible.

Thank You,

The Old Park Wood Team
