Old Park Wood Wildlife
The Park hosts an abundance of wildlife from the woodland, open fields and the Levens Estuary surrounding the Park.
The unique ancient woodland surrounding the Park is a well established habitat for the very small native species to the timid Roe deer. The abundance of wildlife from the woodland erupts onto the Park for our customers to enjoy. Bird feeders placed by our customers next to Holiday Homes encourages a wide range of both common and unusual birds to enjoy. With wild rabbits and pheasants feeding from the ground and the buzzards soaring high in the sky, what a way to enjoy the beautiful sunset over the distant hills!
Within the open spaces throughout the woodland, smaller native shrubs and flowers are found which benefits butterflies and moths. In springtime these areas explode into colour with bluebells and snowdrops, making your woodland walk breath taking.
The Leven Estuary and the saltmarsh bordering the Park have many National and International environmental designations to recognise and protect the rich diversity of flora and fauna. The Estuary attracts many migratory species, such as Pink-footed Geese, Shelduck, Pintail, Oystercatcher and Ringed Plover.
The area behind the Park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest situated on a bed of limestone. This supports many rare plant species including Squinancywort, Limestone Bedstraw, Green-Winged Orchid, Spring Cinquefoil and Lancastrian Whitebeam.
This is a true wildlife haven for you to enjoy.
