Fun Day raises over £1,000 for charity!
You can't book the weather (we got drizzle, and more drizzle!) but this certainly didn't put a dampener on the day. We had some super entries for our Triathlon and other competitions and everyone
seemed to enjoy the BBQ, with the Burgers and hot dogs going down a treat! Our
thanks go to the local Scouts for cooking and organising the Triathlon once
again.
There were some very creative carvings in the Pumpkin competition, and we
had over 15 entries this year!
We had lots of entries for our photography competition, but the eventual
winner was 5 year old Amelia Walker who was presented with her trophy by
Lady Cavendish.
Bigland Hall
Equestrian brought four ponies to the event to give rides to the children
through the woodland on the edge of the park. I think we can safely say that
they proved a hit, with a long queue until the end of the day.
The Toffee Vodka samples from Kin Vodka were enjoyed by many of our residents,
as were the canapés made by the chefs at The Ilex Brasserie at Holker.
Local
artisan bakers, Fat Flour from Cark brought a tasty selection of
their fresh breads and pastries, raising over £70 from the proceeds for
Cancer Care.
Many enjoyed
the Halloween cupcakes and bakes made by Lynn Hornby; the proceeds of
which went to our designated charities: St Marys Hospice and Guide Dogs
for the Blind. Our Prize Raffle proved most popular, and all the prizes have
now been claimed. In total, we raised £1,134.53 for the two charities. In addition, Molly Swindell at Plot 8 has
raised £68.50 for the sale of her hand made cards and jewellery, this will be
going to St Marys Hospice.
We would like to
thanks all local businesses for their support and involvement, and of course
our residents for making the day such a success.
